Just been going through the last few pages and read about the pond! Well, done hope it's starting to look good now. Must admit I agree with you that although they make a lovely feature they can be a pain the b**t! The thing to watch is the edges as it works just like in real life the soil gets soggy and starts to slump great geography lesson! Did I also recognise gravel boards that the track is laid on?? It's all starting to come together isn't it! GReat stuff!

The track is laid on bricks, the pond is settling in now with oxigenating weed now stopping the mossys from multiplying

Again, had the worst steam up ever today. Tender of River Alde derailed on Haddon Bridge, I was filming from the tender at the time. Plop... Camera is dead. Hoping that it may come back to life after drying...
After this the train got stuck in that cutting at the back and in stepping over to get to it I damaged the pond edging. In getting back down from the flowerbed I garrotted myself on the washing line.
I did manage to get two runs in without derailments...

We all have bad ones Mr Bond, although dunking your camera is pretty bad.
Chin up, & make sure your next session is better...... & if it starts the same way, then pack all your stuff away & do something else that day.. :D :D :D

Keith, sounds like a nice earth fault that! :|

Well, on Sunday I nearly sorted out a new station for Aldeburgh. A friend who lives round the corner bought an attractive station from a show which I sort of had my eye on. Anyway, he brought it round. I had forgotten how large it was!!

So that was a no, as it takes up about a 10th of my entire railway space!!
Apart from that I built a retaining wall
Image
and re altered the track layout at Aldeburgh. I had wanted a passing loop here but there just isn't the space so a long siding and some chain shunting instead methinks! I'd like a corris ish station here with an over roof.
Image
After that I just took some artsey fartsey pictures of the railway and planted a few crocus bulbs.

I am really pleased with how this railway is turning out.
Oh, and the camera has come back to life :D

Was that train shed the one that was on Mike Harris' irish inspired layout? Looks very nice, and yes quite a large building if it's the one i know.

....... but had forgotten how hugmongous it was!
 But I bet I could find space for it if it were looking for a new home ;)

I'm liking the new look of the DVLR from the photo's Mr.B - we shall have to arrange another visit! :D

Well I had a much better steam up today. Getting used to RC control, still not quite got it yet - lots of stopping and starting but oh well. Here we see the good people from the Deben Valley going to watch the Aldeburgh Firework display - with real miniature fireworks!

I did don't worry, its the burning matches which I fired over the wall into the neighbours garden I am worried about... It doesn't show in the video some of the rockets went over the wall!

Looks and sounds entertaining. I guess it's just a case of waiting to see if the neighbours come round asking awkward questions...

Glad to see River Deben running more happily on the Mk. 2 DVLR. I can see the big box under the RH side of the cab, but where did the rest of the bits go - do you have any photos of how the RC was squeezed in?

How are you launching those matches?

It's a simple technique, fully explained in "The Terrorists Handbook" - you can download it for free, and the government will give your computer a good scouring at the same time! 8)

very simple. Grab two matches and a strip of tin foil. Place the two matches head to heads in the middle of the foil at one edge. Wrap the matches very tightly in the foil. You have to have enough foil so that the explosion can't blow through it. Push one of the matches part way into the ground, pointing away from people or flammable things. Then put a heat source near the middle of the firework where the match heads are (wrapped in the foil) and brace yourself! The match heads quickly combust producing a lot of heat and gas which because it can't escape push the top match out of the foil with alot of force. Simple, cheap and effective.
I really should get a job on bluepeter...

RE the R/C on RD...
The receiver and batteries are hidden in the box beneath the footplate and the servos is inside on of the tanks. The areal is one of the tank fillers. An ingenious and cunning solution by DLRDan. I hate the look of radio control but desperately needed it for my line so Dan fitted it with R/C very discretely indeed! The bunker has also been pushed back to give a little more of a realistic cab space.

I was under the impression that the slip-eccen Millie and Bertie couldn't be RC fitted?

Its only RC on the regulator. Its worth it on my line though. Really tight corners and millies with large wheel bases just dont work. It had a habit of stalling, building up a huge head of steam then exploding out of the curve and ending up in the turntable well...

As was my Bertie when I bought it - I did a "deal" and the previous owner kept the Roundhouse fittings ;)

Thanks! Inside one of the tanks... ah, I think I can just see the servo at 1:02 and 3:15, by the right hand side of the boiler. Hmmm, that's where my driver lives.
