A little progress. I recieved the sight glass from PPS today
I need to make a special fitting for the top part of the gauge, for obvious reasons.

Heat the glass tube up with a bunsen burner....
Hmmm the boiler's looking good, nice to see some progress but why did you have to buy from pps??

because they are the only people who do a 1/4x40 fitting sight glass that would fit on.
a normal model engineering one has a blowdown that come out to far, so it sticks out the side of the loco, not good.

PPS do a 14/40 one with a different blowdown, so it fits.

I know you have some issue with him.
but i dont ;)

thought a problem occurs.
The nipples on the pump, are 3/32",  the black on the boiler, is 1/8", there arent any adaptors, as far as i am awear, that go from 1/8 to 3/32.
andy, i have had some of my fittings come with different size nipples in them, but i brought a pack of 1/8" and they fit in, so all my pipes are 1/8" s no need to solder 2 different size pipes together

well, i dontt think a 1/8th  nipple and but will fit on the bypass.
and also, i think 1/8 looks to big.

turned up a blast pipe today. all the cutters were blunt so its not very neat.

not sure how well it will work, i used the 1:6 ratio to get the height, and its alot taller than djb's

well, hasnt it been a bloody long time.
most of the people who remember this are probably long gone.

so, after 4 years or so of sitting in its box, i finally got round to finishing converting my edrig to coal.
only functionally for now.
i have a big list of cosmetic things to do to it.

I shall make a video soon, first firing failed as the steam raising blower was to weak...

Andy, I have read the whole journey from front to back and hasn't this little Edrig come a long way (since 2008!)? I have enjoyed the whole thing and I am rooting for you to get her going now. Good luck and get a 12v battery on the blower,   give it some more power (without sucking the fire up the chimney).

Be sure to video it for us, it would be great to witness your Edrigs first steps. :)

right, finally have a video!
enjoy

had to work on a few things, as you would expect.
but managed to get 5 hours from it the other day. until i lost the fire while putting more oil in.
it was getting dark anyway.

6 years down the line, and finally it looks virtually done! So glad that you've actually got this running on coal, and from the video seems to be a lovely runner as well.
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."
