22nd May At Butterley

Post by Narrow Minded » Sun May 22, 2011 5:52 pm

This weekend saw a diesel gala being held at the Midland Railway Centre....

Image

and coincidentally the visit to Butterley by another Forum member - who appropriately enough brought along a diesel to run!

Callum (MamodFan)'s "Malcolm" takes one of the Westwood & Loscoe 2 comp's around the dual gauge track.

Image

The tail wind on the Up stretch was encouragement to try "two-up"!

Image

Of course, a tail wind on the Up meant a headwind on the Down, so Malcolm then took a rest.

Image

The "Two Tone" effect on the horn was a sure sign that the batteries were a little low, so for the final run before departure, Malcolm hitched a lift!

Image

A committee meeting (and probably the blustery conditions) left the line clear for Callum and myself, so apart from a diesel left running on the 32mm line to please the passing public, ....

Image

I got plenty of "running in" turns for the new addition to the Westwood & Loscoe loco roster! Did I mention the blustery conditions? - it looked like I'd spent too much time in Pendo's company!!

Image

Then a ten year old Bertie turned up

Image

along with its Lady Anne stablemate

Image

and there were several loco's in the holding sidings waiting for the meeting to end so they could stretch thier legs!

Great to meet you Callum, sorry that it was so quiet, but I hope you still enjoyed your visit and of course, I hope you're pleased with your new BIG loco! ;)

I thought of you today Greg, because I went to the Merstham show in the afternoon (which to be honest was a bit of a dissapointment, but more on that another day) and noticed a very familiar looking Baldrig on the Anything Narrow Gauge/Imp Models stand ;)

Did you think of me when you saw Myfanwy or when you were getting the cattle vans (which, if I'd been there, I would have snaffled. Mwaha-ha-har!) ? !

Haha Greg, I only thought of you when I saw 'MYFANWY', I did have to look twice, I saw it then thought ah hang-on I recognise that engine, then looked again and you came straight into my head. :D

An act of fate Mr B.

When Myfanwy and Victoria went to pastures new, I was left with a niggling regret at not having one of Accucrafts four coupled workhorses - I've always liked the "Hunslet"esque look of Caradoc, so having had a good long think about the one brought to our collective attention by Pendo, the deal was done.
Very nice loco in just about "as new" condition when I got her.
She's still in ex-works paint (that won't last!), but already fitted out with Summerlands Chuffer (supplied at very short notice and on time - Thanks Chris & Nigel), sv cover and replacement reg & gas levers ;)
