Thanks to you both, Philip and Rik..... I do so agree that the newness is 'in your face', as they say! Either the weather or I will have to do something about that. Rik, as for being 'too realistic' then clearly I have failed!!!!!

I was on a train through France a couple of weeks ago and was astonished at how far afield the graffiti "artists" are wiling to go. There was "gang signs" or "tags" or whatever you call them on electrical boxes beside the tracks that were miles and miles from any village, in the middle of nowhere. They must have walked for hours. I don't get it. :?

The graffiti is brilliant Peter.

I'm no expert on the subject, but shouldn't you have a 'tag' so that the other, er, crews know who burned them with these hits?

Simon, you are sounding much too familiar with the terminology, next time you visit I might invite you to add your 'tag'.

Years ago, when I commuted into Paddington, there was a very profound statement daubed on one of the concrete supports of the elevated A40, and it has always stuck in my mind... "Far away is close at hand with images of elsewhere." Sounds like it should be the motto of this board.  :D

My favourite graffito was over the loo roll dispenser at college

"Sociology degrees - please take one!"

"Jesus saves - Keegan scores on the rebound" - on the back of the Gents by the station was pretty funny too.

Cheers,
Peter in AZ

Nice one, Peter. Similarly, my own favourite in that vein is.....
'Jesus saves...... not on my salary he wouldn't'

The old one that used to appear on the back of security vans below the sign that said "no handsignals" was
"Driver is a convicted Saudi shoplifter"
Nice job there Peter.

Continuing IrishPeter's loo based humour. In the days when a stand up pee was free but an old penny (1/240th of a £) got you into the sit down loo.

'Here I sit broken hearted,
paid a penny and only farted.'

OK back to topic.

Meanwhile, back to the thread!!!!! having read your comments, and taking your advice, which I always do, I have now managed to take away the 'newness' of the painted walls. It looks so much improved now, see what you think....

My new station now has a name. Originally I planned to call it 'Brockhamton' as it is close to the village, however, that is the name of the terminus, which of course, it isn't!
So, a new name was required, and one with some local connection I thought would be nice. As we are within a few miles of the home of Wales best known author and poet, Dylan Thomas I have adopted the fictitious fishing village name from his most famous work, 'Under Milk Wood', 'Llareggub'. This is one of those names which can be read either forwards or backwards..... you decide which you prefer!

More structure work is currently underway, pictures may follow shortly...

I like the choice of name Peter.
Incidentally there are still many people in the area that remember Dylan and Catrin well. By all accounts they were not always popular in the town, Catrin had a habit of sunbathing in the nude (a foolhardy occupation in west Wales at the best of times)
One of the Landlords of Browns Hotel until his retirement had a lucrative sideline in selling old dart boards and beer mugs to gullible American tourists as articles that Dylan played on or drank from, on one occasion even a large bed was disposed off in this manner. The chap reckoned that it was easier than sending them to the dump

Interesting information Jim, there may be many who would love to make an association with our local hero, but I make no claim, and, as he died in 1953 whilst on a promo. tour of America, I certainly wouldn't be old enough to remember him anyway. Caitlin was the wild spirit you describe and had relationships elsewhere too. She was only 39 when Dylan died and lived abroad until her death in Sicily in 1994. Incidentally, she too rolled her own cigarettes...... sounds familiar!
However.... Brown's Hotel is well worth a visit, the Boat House (his home)  and Writing Shed are 'must see' tourist destinations and Laugharne is a beautiful village, we are so lucky to live in such a place.

The weathering and station name are both brilliant, Peter.

Now that you have a fishing village name, can we expect to see a harbour in due course?

Another good faux welsh name comes from the Diskworld novels

"Llamedos"...

Once again, forwards or backwards...

Groan!!!!!! that was unexpected. I never gave a thought to a harbour connection but now you have planted the seed I have looked at a location and decided it is certainly possible and, despite having to concentrate my efforts on a new project, I think would add to the overall appearance in an area which is currently underused.
This railway will never be completed as long as new ideas are thrown in my general direction. Keep them coming and as long as I can I will try to accommodate them.
BUT...... No Blackpool Towers or wind turbines, OK?

This is the site for the harbour scene...

Image

Not particularly interesting as it stands so just right for development. With a little modification to the timber framing it will allow a step to be fitted which will be the water level. Meanwhile... a bonded warehouse would be perfect for such a location...

I have just found a picture of a suitable dockside crane to build which will look in keeping with the small harbour. Other sheds and structures will complete the picture.

Bl**dy hell Peter you work fast, is there a word beyond prolific to describe the speed and quality you build? I'm still thinking about the tank wagon I promised in my last post.
I like the building and look forward to seeing the crane, painted and weathered later today.
