Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales

Nice layout, I like the half buildings at the station. The front of the shed could also be a nice way to hide an entrance into a storage siding in a garage or something. Apart from that; gradiënts are annoying, certainly for live steam and even more when you want to run without the electronics. Cou...

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales

Third pic. down does it for me with the track sweeping round the curve, up through the cutting into the station. Seems you have some civil engineering hurdles, but I'm sure with the track in place, ways around any problems often become more obvious. Grant. Thanks Grant. There are a couple of spots ...

Re: Turntables

Mine is decidedly low tech. A planter dish set into the ground, with a platform with ptfe grommets in contact with the edge of the dish, Allows fairly free movement whilst also stopping any tendency to self propel, or drift when a loco is on it. http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a442/philjames-cro...

Some really interesting rolling stock and motive power Daan. I've made a couple of scratch built wagons, but nothing so much as yours. :)

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales

Daan, We thought it was unique to the UK! Anyway, back on topic - In the space of just three years, my railway has had three layouts! This plan is as it was at the beginning of 2016 Garden Railway Plan1.jpg The track initially consisted of the portion from 'Black Burton', to the end of the gar...

That's incredibly realistic Jim. I particularly like the skin tones and eyes - looks so life like!
Congratulations!

Re: The Charnwood Forest Light Railway

Everyone seems to be using Filcris these days - is it actually any good? It is excellent to work with, and holds curves well. But beware the temptation to use other 'plastic wood'. I have a dealer of recycled plastic wood near to me, so thought I would try some of their offerings which appeared to ...

Re: A Light Railway for the Western Dales

You are of course quite right Chris, but the connection from the GWLR is via the Lindeth Light Railway. I understand there is even a little welsh railway near Moribund Bay!

A Light Railway for the Western Dales

The GWLR began life in 2014, building on the enthusiasm and foresight of local history buffs, who had unearthed the story behind the Yorkshire dales' forgotten railway - the Breastfield & Bogg Bridge Light Railway, a long forgotten and foolhardy effort by the great Bernard Housedown (Potter) of ...

Re: A Quiet Sunday

Thank you Phil. I'm afraid it's the sun. It is so bright at the moment that good photos can only be taken early in the morning or late afternoon, to avoid high contrast and strong shadows. Grant. Nothing to be afraid about there - it adds to the atmosphere of the tableau - you can feel the warmth (...

Re: Custom made nameplates

I've had very quick turnaround (about 3 weeks, and good quality) from MDC via Tony (above), and I've had very good quality from Narrow Planet, but a wait of nearly 3 months on one occasion, and about six weeks on the first. I guess you pays your money and takes yer choice...

Re: Anglicised Stainz - nearly done

That's a wicked camber on the curves, not to mention the gradient  Or is it the camera angle  Great to see you modelling again Rik. No - it's shoddy camera work. Just plonked the camera down while the train was running its course. The train is a bit of a mish mash of stock as well - jus...

Looks like a nice bit of evening sun, or is it light reflected from a window elsewhere? Either way, another stunning tableau. 8)

Entertaining, if poignant, and a novel way to signal the end of an era :( Will the Wychbold and Stoke Prior Railway still offer Thomas the chance for heroics like his involvement in the great cave rescue?

Thanks for the link to the street lights, BaBBLR. Have now ordered some. They look just the job for the platforms.

Rik
Just what I thought. Hopefully they'll lend themselves to being made taller as well.

Never heard of Charlies before, but I think I found the correct website and it appears to be a solely Welsh outfit, so their nearest store to me is probably Shrewsbury!! Can't see the street lights on their site except as part of village scenes. They are are available on fleabay, from the US at eye...
