RC for battery locos

There seem to be an awful lot of different speed controllers out there for battery locos: Roundhouse Electroglyde, Mtroniks, Electronize, RCS, AnDel, Timpdon, the list goes on I am sure.

I'm considering possibly RC'ing my IP-based diesel at some point in the future (but not before Stoneleigh, don't panic!) - any comments on any of these options, or alternatives?

Personally I'd go for one of the timpdon options as they perform faultlessly. I have encounted problems with Mac5's of late.

Thanks for that - what sort of issues have you had with the Mac5's?

I knew I'd miss something off the list! Add the Brian Jones Mac5 and Cliff Barker options to the earlier set.

I had 2 which were faulty that burnt the motors out on the loco. the one which 'wasnt' faulty ran jerky and glitched.

I've used M'troniks on a R/C boat before and they perform great, so I have bought there Loco one for mine, I can't believe how small it is!

Will be interested to hear how you get on with it in the loco.

The Roundhouse unit looks very similar to the Mtroniks, but with the addition of a directional lighting circuit - can anyone confirm?

Well I've just ordered a Planet T5 radio system from Howes, but it won't be with me till next week due to a problem with their order from the supplier, but I will keep you informed on how I get on with the ESC

Ran the loco today using the a 40mhz system, it ran perfectly fine, the cruise control on the speed controller is a big help, just turn the transmitter off, and the loco carries on, saves holding the stick all the time

It's so easy to set up aswell, just push the little button on the ESC within 2 seconds of power-up, push the throttle lever fully up, a loght comes on on the ESC, then into fully reverse, and you are ready to go
