Well the mystery continues, there are now 3 of them!

Planked (must do that in the light next time) and varnished the interior. Why the heck does the inside need varnishing?!

Articulated hearse wagon for use in case of multiple bereavements? (The central part of the roof hinges open to crane the coffins in and out vertically, and the flat parts of the roof at either end are for floral tributes?)

The end doors (which I had forgotten about until re-reading this thread just now) are clearly for unloading the coffins at the graveside - or rather, at the end of the grave. A temporary siding will be laid along where each row of graves will go, then is progressively lifted to enable each grave in turn to be dug and used. A supply of suitably tatty jubilee track will be required.

No no, its nowhere near the correct answer, (a nice idea for next years MOTY though...)

The new line runs from woodbridge to snape, and the wagons are designed totally around functionality. See what you make from that...

Good clue Zach lets see it it helped.

I think these are phosphate quarry wagons loaded from the top and tipped from the back to empty.
