Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Very inspirational Greg. It has now gotten me thinking about pulling up my HO layout that has not been touched for over 2 years. I am planning some storage tracks in the part of the shed where it is but I am now thinking a small branch line off the line coming in to the shed. I have a rocky river b...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Great stuff Rik. One minute per month is a brilliant idea. As Peter said, there are some dedicated travelers on the PLR. Your camera is really good - I liked the shot at Peckforton as the diesel trundled past and the cab interior was in focus as well as the background train pulling into the station....

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
My last post back in May described the farmland backscene on the north wall of the layout. I have now finished the west and south backscenes, which completes the whole “wallpaper”. This time I wanted a town and ‘mine’ scene for the location of “Claymine” – the source of the clay for the pottery work...

Reopening of the heritage Zig Zag railway.
The ZZR is about 100 miles west of Sydney NSW, in the Blue Mountains. The line was built in the 1860s and superseded by a new line around 1915. The track bed lay abandoned till the 1970s (I remember driving along part of it in the 1960s) then resurrected by volunteers using Queensland 3’-6”gauge sto...

2023 Great Steam Train Race Australia
Four steam trains ‘race’ in parallel along the line from near Newcastle to Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. The locos are Garratt 6029, Pacific 3801, 5917 and Victorian R766 The location is the 4 tracks in the Hunter valley, 100 miles north of Sydney, two of which are the ‘normal’ general freig...

I haven't made many videos lately, but I think this old hasn't been seen on this forum before.
It's the story of a very busy coal haulage day on the SaTR.

You might get some ideas from my tiny indoor layout.

Re: Gearbox motor
I have used one on a 'static' model of one of my larger scale 'Rockets' and it is a strong and powerful motor which can be linked directly to a driving axle. Its only failing is that it needs large diameter wheels to allow adequate clearance above rail height. It could be adapted to drive chain or ...

Re: The Wychbold and Stoke Prior Railway From The Air
That's an almost perfect GR. Some double track, plenty of stations and passing loops, lots of wiggly track and a sunny spot to sit and watch trains.

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Thanks everyone for your encouragement.
I'm glad none of you commented on the geological anomaly in the last pic where there is a good size creek/culvert on one side of the track but no water on the other side in the backscene. Must be an underground river. (My daughter did pick it up!)

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
2D printing ......... Backscenes I wanted to cover the walls around the layout with some sort of ‘scenery’. There are 3x2” studs protruding from the walls every 2’ or so, and three wall angles of 90 degrees. So to ‘round’ the scenes I used 3mm MDF. I curved it by pouring boiling water on it and ben...

That's Rod, much appreciated.
I forgot to 'credit' Peter Binnie for the wheels, which I put on 3mm knitting needles as axles. Axle boxes are just styrene with cardboard springs.

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
I saw a picture of a tiny passenger carriage, which immediately said “I need one” for my indoor line. It was in this Topic Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd by gilfachphil. https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=13912&start=120 so thanks to you and Plateway Models for the inspiration!...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Fences should be just a few strands of barbed wire, but maybe a post and rail would be the ticket in front of a wheatfield. I'll try raising the scene up a bit and then add some bushes (not hedges !) Meanwhile, after much experimentation I have got a backscene for the pottery works at Pottsville. An...
