sound cards
I am looking into putting a sound card into the loco I have made from one of the Garden Railway Specialist kits, I have made the loco run via battery and is remote control using Timpdon electronics, has anyone done this to their locos and what pitfalls if any am I likely to come across, any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

Many sound cards run off their own 9 volt supply - I know mine does! I found my locos were too small to instal a sound unit (besides, as forty quid a throw they were more expensive than the loco), so I did this: http://www.mdlr.co.uk/budup.html

Like Bryan I am currently using an ACME unit although mine is running off the main battery of my RC loco and I can turn if on and off using one of the AUX outputs on my Timpton radio. If I was to buy another tho it would be a chuffed to bits unit.

sound card
as I started this I will go on? well I opted for Mylocosound unit and every pleased with it. it has gone into a GRS 0-4-0 Hunslet loco, bit of a tight fit but it works and the sound is very good and realistic, it can be altered to suit along with the whistle. the beat is controlled by the speed of the loco and slows as the loco comes to stop. if you went to the 16mm show Warton Road used the same sound card. try the web site Mylocosound or give Peter Spoerer a call his number is on the site and he will let you listen to the sounds over the phone
