Sticky tape marks
A little while back, I was having trouble trying to fit the roof to my new IP Vale of Rheidol brakevan. I tried using sticky tape to keep it securely in position while it dried...unfortunately, this has now left horrible sticky marks all over my carefully-prepared paint job
Can anybody suggest a means to remove these without damaging the paint?

Re: Sticky tape marks
I use a cotton bud dipped in lighter fluid (Shellite) for removing sticky labels from magazines, old sticky tape on boxes etc., but lighter fluid will remove fresh paint if you rub too hard. There are proprietary products for removing adhesive residues, eg 'Goo-Gone'........MuzTrem:77137 wrote:..unfortunately, this has now left horrible sticky marks all over my carefully-prepared paint jobCan anybody suggest a means to remove these without damaging the paint?
Any solvent that removes sticky tape adhesive can attack paint to some extent, so test first in a place that doesn't show.
I've also found that residual adhesive can sometimes be picked off with a fresh piece of tape, as the adhesive usually sticks to itself better than it does to other surfaces.

A lot depends on the tape used. More information would be good. Usually if the paint is properly dried white spirit will remove any adhesive residue quite easily (as it will most price label residues from any hard surface). Surgical spirit will do the same thing. It' a question of gentle dabbing and wetting into a soft absorbent tissue. Not harsh scrubbing. If you can lay hands on it a "Sticker Remover Kit" from the pound shop will do the same thing with no problems. Made by 151 products. Manchester. Not sure what it is but it works brilliantly.

Yes WD30 is good for removing stuff like that but I have to remove sticky labels from some very expensive designer spectacle frames at work. I use a lens cleaner called Solution 30 which you can buy from your local optician and that works very well without leaving a film or taking the shine off of plastic frames. I keep a small spray at home for the railway.
