right, the coal fired locos nearly out of the workshop with just painting to do, time to plan the next project!
The engine has been bought! More to come.

I'm cheating, using an Essel chassis to save having to make one  in the pic its sat on the coal burners chassis which has been dismantled for painting. I was offering it up to see if I could re-use the CAD files for a second model but the Essel chassis are good quality and for £75 you can't really fault the price. As the one I have in mind is like 5mm shorter than my own design I thought it a bit pointless to have to start machining bits when I could just buy it all done for me.Sir haydn:47248 wrote:I still need to get my petrol electric up and running. here's the man! I did wonder if you'd see what I was upto Dave! It was your Detritus that gave me the impetus to do this. I'm going to use the generator (it is indeed electric transmission) as a starter motor as well so yeah essentially a "dyna-start"! If you look on ze Youtubez you can find a video of a chap in France who successfully used the same engine as me with this set up.DaveWatkins:47318 wrote:How do you plan to start the engine? Don't worry Andy I'll be there this coming Monday, new loco in hand!

His old web site disappeared a while ago but I found it again at a new URL, here, for anyone who hasn't seen it before.bessytractor:47353 wrote:If you look on ze Youtubez you can find a video of a chap in France who successfully used the same engine as me with this set up.

Alternative Power
Forgive the intrusion folks, have just joined so will be a stranger to most.
Interesting thread and subject (the whole Alt Power thing). Anyway someone mentioned a guy in France. If it was Carl Hibbs you had in mind he can be found here http://www.cgtrains.com/f19- ... el
There are a few folk on that forum attacking the subject with different methods. Please have a look, maybe join in the discussions. Don't be put off by the Contintental title, it's because some folk are actually based abroad but we all speak English.
Thank you for reading and hopefully will see you over there.
