Snow (1963 style BFI film)

Post by Pendo Pilot » Tue Nov 30, 2010 2:09 pm

Well with all the current 16mm steam escapades going on I thought I would share this video I found a while back on YT. Standard gauge but not as you would know it today. Apparently the film was made earlier than 1963 by a few years but it captures the changeover from steam to diesel good & the whole working as a team & getting stuff done feeling. (The one we used to have as BR before those idiots privatised us).

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

Actually it's grown on me & I guess it sets the time in well. It is a good film though & lots to see for the keen eyed regarding what was left of the railway. Must say the signalman seems to of been in the best place with all that snow, lovely fire. All we had was convector heaters & air con when I was a bobby.

What's fooled you is the shots of "Barbados" which date from LMS days - the rest is 1963!

LIKED the shots from the train of the stranded motorists................

A top film, but I'm pretty sure that is all CGI fakery.

There are:
- Kids at school and none of them look to be injured or dead.
- Milk in enviromentally friendly wash-and-use-again recycle-when-broken glass bottles.
- Train services running at what look to be normal line speed.
- Track gangs not wearing hi-viz and not being killed
- Hot meals being served on trains, only available now on Wrexham & Shropshire and London-Norwich services I believe.
- People going about their normal day-to-day business, and not staying at home to watch Jeremy Kyle.

A work of fiction if ever I saw one.

Nobody spot the LMS Turbomotive then?

Nice one Tony, best not let the Health & Safety numptys see that one then! It's nice to look back & see how backwards we have become. :D

Oh & you can still get hot meals served on a train in first class with Virgin on morning & evening services. Most of it tastes quite good, especially breakfast! ;)
