Ive just tried to cast a figure I made using RTV silicone as anyone tried this. I mixed it poured it and now waiting for it to cure. But what a mess it is doing it. The mixture seemed well thick to pour I dont know if its reached all parts of the figure just relying on gravity
Anyone done this before and can offer advise. I dont think u can use meths as a thinner can u!

Im being serious here it took me ages to sculpture this figure and Im seeking advise for help on thinning SILICON RTV, is meths the answer!

Thinners
Thinners or "diluetants" are available for
thinning or decreasing the viscosity of some
RTV silicones. However, they are
expensive and do not seem very effective
(one must add a large amount of diluetant to
achieve a small effect on viscosity, and
thorough mixing is difficult and time
consuming). Diluents also weaken the
cured silicone. Therefore you should
purchase silicone in the desired viscosity
rather than using diluetants.

I know Ive seen Thickener so I need a more viscous silicone with a thickener or is that a less viscous.

I make all my figures from fimo, I'd be interested, could you mass produse them from one original do you think?

Well my first attempt was a disaster as the silicone was that thick that it didnt reach the bottom of the mold so going to try again!
I have made dozens of figures from sculpey and wanted to have a go at molding and casting just to see the result. Not good, so far.

If I were to make figures, I would try with Milliput. It is commonly used with customising action figures but I bet you could make figures with it

Milliput is fine for small items but not cost effective for figure making, buy super sculpey 500g and you can make 4 -5 figures at ten pounds where you would need about 10 packs of milliput to do the same so thats 30 pounds

This is my chef figure Im trying to reproduce it came out the mold ok but the mold was discarded so I will have another go. Anybody want one of these if I am successful!

He knows how to fry chips and he is currently head chef at a five star hotel so hes well qualified His speciality is beef!

Hmm, interesting I have never used sculpey, how is it set?
I use fimo and like it alot, you bake it in the oven and it sets solid. I have just made a figure out of plastercine for an animation. I have decided I dont like plastercine much!!!

Fimo and sculpey are the same. No difference same oven temperature same price!

Ive given up with moldmaking I think I have had the silicone stored to long does anyone know the shelf life of this stuff
