Llechfan Garden railway

Whilst on hols in Tywyn (Towyn in English!) I arranged to see the Llechfan Rly on the Thursday evening. Its been built over a number of years & is situated round the back of the hostel at Wharf Station. There are two main circuits connected by a 1 in 40 section!Unfortunately the gloom of the evening had set in so what with the extensive cover of trees the pics werent brilliant but they give a sense of the line.

it is indeed a very nice railway i can still remember when it just used to be the lower loop and the steam up area...... then watching them build the top loop up and finaly the bridge over the ex. footpath crossing althought the bottom loop is rotting away due to hand made wooden sleeper track

There's some good news about this railway: some of you will have heard of Peter Jones, he of the Compton Down Light Railway, who dies last year. It's now been decided that the "infrastructure" of Compton Down is to be transferred to Towyn and rebuilt on the garden railway there, as a lasting memorial. There will no doubt be a fair amount of concrete work involved...........

Great! That should look fab! I don't know how the air of slowly rotting narrow gauge charm will combine with the heavy industry side of the compton down though!
