Hunslet 0-4-4-0 “Carnegie” ex-Woolwich Arsenal

Post by -steves- » Mon Jul 17, 2023 3:45 pm

I had some 3D printed parts to the above loco. I added a few parts to get it running as the cranks, wheels etc were not there.I built it and never got around to painting it. A good friend of mine offered to do a weathered paint job on it for me and I took up the offer. I got it back today and I have to say I am extremely pleased with the result. I hope some of you like it too. All I have to do now is make a bulkhead and cab interior for it, but you can't tell from the pictures that it's not complete.

I like it a lot Steve, a nicely weathered and tired looking loco, not too heavy on the rust, as might be the case for military equipment.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Thanks Peter, I think he has done a wonderful job of it :D I must admit he does like doing military stuff, maybe hence the inspiration.

It turns out there were TWO 2ft gauge versions built and THREE 18 inch! This is w/n 4509 of 1954, built for the Doornkop Sugar Estates in South Africa, now at the Patons County Narrow Gauge Railway in Ixopo, Natal.

You probably could get away with it, inside frames would be needed. I do have access to drawings as well...

It's always interesting to see what parts go missing, what becomes battered, and what gets modified, over a few decades - and more challenging not just to restore to an earlier appearance, but to model in it's later forms..
