Midland railway station signs

Post by JMORG » Thu Aug 17, 2017 2:29 pm

Hi guys,
One of our members has asked for me to make some Midland railway station signs for his garden railway. Does anyone have any pictures of a typical Midland station sign for reference??
Butterley folk?

When you say station signs do you mean station nameboards, or the Ladies, Booking Office, Cross the Line by the footbridge, type?

I have a book called Midland Style published by the HMRS back in 1975. It details all the signage of the Midland and its constituents - letter shapes and sizes for different types of sign, etc.I'll happily scan relevant pages and email them if you can let me know what you want.

Sorry I meant nameboards! I've seen pictures of Butterley station but I just needed clarification...
Pictures would be very much appreciated!

Can't help with Butterley but this is the standard Midland nameboard for Gloucester.
I've had to reduce it to hit the forum size limit, if you want a slightly better resolution version, PM me an email address.

Known in many quarters as 'Running in' boards, the details Philip has posted are typical for Midland stations, usually only one per platform and usually on the first half of the platform on the approach side - hence 'Running In' boards!
