Gas fired 00 live steam

David Taylor used to build these little 00 gauge live steamers in the 1980's. The company he used to own was called Steamcraft. He brought some of them round at the weekend so we built a suitable garden railway for them (some 00 gauge track laid on the decking). They ran remarkably well considering some had not run for 10years or more.!!

If there is enough interest I'll post a bit of video footage that I took at the same time as the photo's. They are very hard to film well!!

Had Hornby marketed their product at the right community (i.e. through one of their specialist companies like Bassett Lowke) rather than selling it as if it were a normal Hornby train set, not providing a proper controller (it has built it delays which are unnecessary) and instructions, and then disappointing the younger generation, plus their father's & grandfather's when the loco derails at speed on the curve spewing out steam, water & oil whilst it gets rid of some 25 PSI, it would have been more successful and not gained that unfair reputation.

I'm a Committee member of the OO Live Steam Club, which includes as our President, Richard Hallam, the original inventor of the system which Hornby then built in China under license. Visit one of our Road Shows at several exhibitions and you will see & be trained if you so desire on how to use this Hornby product properly. Richard's prototype is still going strong some 40 years later.

Worthy of note that some exhibition venues will not allow butane fired locomotives due to H&S or fire detection & suppression systems but will happily allow electrically generated live steam.

These Steamcraft locomotives are very nice but as so few were made those that come up for sale or auction command high prices. Forum member Kenneth (benchmark) has several Steamcraft locomotives in his collection - http://dampmaskiner.webs.com/apps/photo ... d=12979060
