Wow I like it. an easy way to see the water gauge and make thw engine look more authentic

Hi Garrett - yes that's the plan. I will hopefully be ready to offer something in the new year. These are being done for my own amusement and Mamodifying at the moment but would really like to see others use the parts to 'improve' their own Mamod's - it would be an honour for sure!

Here is some possible ideas for you to ponder over peter

how difficult would it be to produce working cab roof vents, detailed cylinder covers, and detailed buffer beams with rivets etc.

Here's is what I mean by the detailed buffers.

Just had an idea.

With the laser cutter, is it possible to have a light "pass" that is not a full burn through, but a score-line of maybe 1/4" thickness?

I was thinking that it would assist in the vertical locations of the bends to fold the sides. It would be a locator of the fold and also aid in the folding. Got the idea looking at the etched brass bits of a Brandbright kit here.

Just a thought....

Hi Sam - can you explain what you would like as working roof vents? With regards cylinder covers I use the DS ones and these could easily be dressed up with rivet detail with a bit of effort. I dont have any decent metal forming tools. You can't really get much better than the DS ones for quality and price. NOW the buffer beams - that's a different story!! Watch this space (forum) - I will be showcasing something soon I hope.

Hi Garrett - I like the idea and have explored it but it can't be done on the laser in the same way an etch process can do it. I am told by the company doing the cutting for me that although etch lines are possible it is very difficult to set the laser on the 1mm steel to just cut half way through. I haven't discussed this further but will do so again. I have made some prototype parts with a tab and slot design to overcome the metal bending/forming issue for right angle bends and this works very well. I have some parts to show on this in the New Year.

Understood, and the limitations now make sense.

The other idea I had were two "half circles" of about 1mm radius or so at the points of both ends of the bend, as when you bend metal there is a tendancy to "stretch" upwards at the bendy bits.

This would serve both as "end marks" for the bend and a place for the bend to expand.

But this is all just armchair thinking, I will wait and see what you have come up with after the new year. So far, everything I have seen you do has been "top notch".

cant wait to see the buffer beam. I suspect they will be the same amazing quality that the wheel inserts are and the cab back.

As for the cab roof vents I was thinking of a sliding one and not a actual "flap" that you see on some engines. It would work on the same principles as your cab back but would be smaller and only have one slide on it.

or it could posted with a new roof to make to job of fitting it more easier. I suspect that there are different roofs available and are of different lengths.

I also have a third option that a whole new cab is produced and the roof extends all the way back to the cab back which would give the crew better protection from the weather.

Hope these new idea's are possible.

Hello Sam, I use those half cab set ups from Roy. They are brilliant. I prefer them to the Mamod style and am working on a full cab conversion for my next 0-6-0 incorporating that cab front. You will just have to wait and see

I do not intend replicating anything already on the market so if you need a half cab - go to RWM. Roy's service is excellent.

I will have a ponder on the roof styles and vent idea though
