Nameplate height

All-

What is a good height for nameplates on a Mamod loco so they can be seen but do not overwhelm the side tanks?

Thanks

Hi Spule...let me get what I ordered for Swordbreaker, hope that will help.

I ordered from Narrow Planet and had mine set at 7mm tall. However this was to balance out the fact the loco has a long name - if you have a short name you could probably push it to 10mm tall ?

Thanks, I was thinking I would go with Narrow Planet, hence why I was asking.

One thing I noticed is they are cheaper than all the other suppliers, any quality issuses with these?

They're a little bit thin but quality wise, they can't be faulted. Their "Fairlie" version I also have a set of, with red lettering - also 7mm in hieght - "SECOND CHANCE" - and it's a piece of art! The reason in suspect they are cheaper is because he does them in massive batches - I had to wait 3 months for mine.

The main "quality issue" is the length of time the plates take to arrive. Plates I ordered in January with the delivery time quoted as 4 weeks ended up arriving at the end of June, with other new deadlines not met, despite being told they would definatly be ready. After this, I will not be ordering from Narrow Planet again, and will be willing to pay a bit more for somebody I know will not mess me around

Mine took me about 3 months over all. I understand that since then he closed the orders, caught up the backlog and has reorganised, so I'd be happy to give NP a second shot and see if the time is less than before, personally.

Thanks for the replies, waiting is a non issue as long as product is delivered, so I will try them.

There were a few issues with the production workflow earlier in the year while I was rebuilding the website to better illustrate the range of plates now available (and make it easier to order for large scales). Apologies to anyone who was left waiting but I am now caught up again and lead times are in the region of 6-8 weeks at present.

I'm working on ways to increase the automation of the service and therefore reduce delivery time in future, but obviously time spent on developing that is time not spent on processing existing orders so there has to be a balance...

Incidentally I can do 0.9mm brass on request (usually I use 0.5mm for larger scales) but the detail resolution isn't as good, especially on works plates, and there is more cusping on the edges of the plates so I don't use it as standard.

No problem Steve, glad it's all sorted - in next couple of months I may have another pair to be ordered. :)

Thanks for the reply Steve. Also thanks for listing the details on the thickness.
