Scratch building rolling stock- Finished

I decided to give it a go after inspiration from many forum posts. After 2 hours in my shed , this was the result.

Wheels are from IP engineering
Axles made from scrap brass on my lathe
Wood from left over scraps from my last steam boat project
Glue is 'Hype FIX-IT '
Paint is Plasticote

With a bit of changes to the design that you did your in, I don't see how you can't make a cheap slate waggon that way! Now, where's some wood.....

Go for it, i was pleasantly surprised how easy and quick they were to build from scratch.They are not perfect and a modest attempt compared to what can be bought out there but since they are virtually built from scraps , i just have to make more :P

What are the dimensions of the length, width and height of the wagon (height with wheels and just the wagon part). I always struggle with trying to size these things and that looks just about perfect to me

The dimensions are
L- 175mm
W-95mm
H-80mm
H (body alone excluding wheels) -45mm

You do not have to be so exact with the measurements.

I have been doing a bit more scratch building with different designs

Of course no train is complete without the guards van

Finally a group picture of the 6 items in this series

All in all the whole 6 items cost me only £30 as all other components were from stuff lying around as leftovers from other projects. They are not perfect but they will do for now.
