Small Vans
As an experiment, I'd like to build some small vans in card. I have a suitable material here for the bodywork, but would like to know what would be a suitable size of wood for the chassis. This particular van is inside frame and is a really tiny beastie. I would use a hot glue gun to fix the floor to the sides to give a bit of strength in this area. Some lead on the floor and balsa in the corners. Will this work OK? Thanks.

Thanks for that Brian. I was aware of the Binnie trick for axle boxes. I've already cut the first van,in one piece apart from roof,.I'll paint and detail prior to final assembly.

Click to enlargePhoto of first van. As you can see,it won't quite fit on an A4 scanner, but I hope you'll have some idea as to size. It's 97mm long, 68mm wide and 85mm high. The bit sticking out the side is the floor. Any one hazard a guess as to the prototype that inspired it? Clue,2'6" gauge. and one door.
