Old Loco Brought Back to Life

A very popular starting point for Live Steam. With their low cost comes a number of problems which can be discussed here

Well, both of mine will be - Swordbreaker's in final tests after a small steam leak noted in the regulator; might need to see Mr. PPS about a new o ring for there and Deep Thought is running like a charm now!

Hmmm, dunno why that posted like that :? but anyway, O rings? use some PTFE tape, does the job just as well and it doesn't need any hassle contacting people etc etc

Any ideas where to get some suitable for such small-thread regulators from? [think like on yon Britomart[

B&Q will do it! Britomart's reg has PTFE tape where the fibre washer perished, but one roll of it will last you a lifetime!

Every pipe join on britomart and pheonix has the stuff on

I've found the best way to do it is to cut way more that you need off, if your replacing an O ring, turn it more into a string pretty much and then wrap it round where the old O ring was a couple of times, and then screw the bit onto it to seal the joint and then cut the extra off.

for pipe fittings, it's more of a fine balance between having just enough so that the pipe fits into the slot without pushing the tape down it (as in having too much tape) or not having enough

Mmm, so basically wrap it about the pipe and latch some onto the r-block surface. Sweet, cheers for the tip. Something to consider after XMas, along with the lining pen and the aggressive sales -but I am getting attached to Deep Thought

I'll treat both DT and SB to the tape then. :) Hopefully will improve steaming somewhat. And aye, now Deep Thought is working, and after everything we've been through the last 9 months...more and more I'm thinking "after all that? Keep it, it's a good 'un."

It works wonders, it really does!

and I would, but I don't think my parents would be happy seeing there's all ready a blue loco by the kitchen sink on blocks been sitting there for the past week and half the kitchen table has been taken over and covered in many many bits of a black loco!

LOL - James, your folks must really dislike the wee engines

No worries, that yell was to anyone and everyone. 8) Phantom I intend to sell one way or another, to put cash towards the Accy, as well as the 5 coaches I'll be restoring to sell, but Deep Thought's slowly creeping towards the 'Keepvent Horizon'...even tempted to repaint its wheels black, rods enamel red and get it nameplates

Well, it depends what mood they're in, and that can change in the blink of an eye :?

And once you get nameplates for it, that's it! It's staying :P
