Snowdon's first day in Traffic

Post by DolwyddelanLightRail » Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:45 pm

This morning, very very early, an unusual freight train working was heard by some of the locals on the standard gauge Conwy Valley Line at Dolwyddelan, and about an hour before the 6:15 quarrymen's train, a new loco was seen!

Image

To be named Snowdon was brought in on a flat bed, straight over from it's first runs on the ANLR! Pheonix had been lit up much earlier than usual so that the crew had time to drag the new loco up to Fron Goch to be checked over quickly before testing

The Lady Anne still rather shiney!

The sun comes over the hills just as the fire is lit in Snowdon

Unfortunatly I didn't actually manage to get a picture of Snowdon with the carriages, but I did get some videos, which will be ready soon!

Later on that day, Snowdon goes up to the quarries, and the sun came out while posing for a photo shoot at Prince Llewellyn quarries!

Pheonix comes back down to do some shunting, and also take the 16:00 mixed train to Fron Goch

Returning back down to form the 16:00, but the fireman had a slight problem with the loco...

Image

as Pheonix had been lit up several hours than normal, and had spent quite a lot of time idling, the water in the side tanks had gotten a bit hot, so while awaiting the right away...

Image

The injectors wouldn't kick in, so it wasn't long until the driver had to stop due to low water!

Image

So, there were 2 choices, hope that gravity would manage to get the train back into Dolwyddelan and cancel the train, or....

Image

Bring out Snowdon from the quarries to drag the train up to Fron Goch, which is what they did! Below a pic taken while waiting for the token from Fron Goch and awaiting instructions on where the failed train was

Image

Soon enough though, Snowdon was coupled up to Pheonix, and after a bit of initial wheelslip on the oilily rails, Snowdon found some grip and set off slowly for Fron Goch!

Image

Once the train had returned back to Dolwyddelan, Phoenix was uncoupled, and Snowdon dragged the loco back up to Fron Goch

and to finish it all off, here's a pic of Snowdon waiting for the signal to go into Dolwyddelan to haul the 17:00 quarrymans train
