7 1/4" Bagnall build
As i seem to be slowly progressing with this project, and may soon have somthing to show, i think its time i told you about my project to build a 7 1/4" bagnall.
So far the parts i have are-
Frames
buffer beams
horn castings
cylinder/ valve chests/ end caps castings.
footplate material
I'v slowly been marking the frames out to be put on the mill and drilled.
and the cab floor to be cut.
I need to get some recent pictures when i remember to take a camera to college, which is where the bits are kept.
In the meantime most info can be found here-

Slow progress, having to fit it around my free time in the workshop at college.
I hoped to have the frames drilled out by now, but iv discovered that one of the frames dips along the top by about 1/16", and not quite sure what to do with it. MJ engineering say hes happy to swap it for a new one, but other people say it will be fine...
I am hopeing to have a majority of the chassis bolted up for the Guildford model engineering rally in July to put on display in the marquee. and hopefulyl get my name on the jnr trophy before its to late. every other jnr is on it!
i'v also been a bit side tracked designing project number 2, another 7 1/4" loco, which seems more tempting to do at the moment.
anywho-

For those who are interested-
finally got round to drilling all the holes in the frames.
This was done by bolting the 2 frames together, and setting them up on a mill, and centre drilling the points.
Tho i didnt do most of them, i found it a bit confusing working in thou inches!.
once all the holes were centred, the frames were taken off the mill, and drilled out on a pillar drill.
Two people needed, the frames are much heavier than you might think!
So im happy now, all i have to do is drill all the fixings angle pieces, then i can bolt up the frames and buffer beams, and have somthing that looks a bit loco like!.

thats handy to know.MTA:52770 wrote:When I took up my apprenticeship, it was the first time I properly came across thous.
Just remember that 0.1mm = 4 thou. Once you start using it more often, you'll get the nack of dividing/multiplying to convert.
Anyway, nice to see progress on the build. When can I have a drive?
you can drive when tis done!, which might be a very long time!
