Not unless Shane is naming after green team body snatchers too. The only Pheonix was 57002 Freightliner Pheonix.DolwyddelanLightRail wrote:Your following the same namings as the Virgin Thunderbirds???

You are on the right track (no pun intended) but a little bit harder than that to get.
-Phoenix, first class 86 I drove (although I think it was actually named something else at the time but the name fitted in with my rusty 21yr old mamod rebuild in a rise from kind of way).
-Fire-Fly, first class 47 I drove.
-Tin Tin, First class 57/3 I drove....
I'm sure you get the picture now.
I still have a handful of "Firsts" to use including my first 153
"Dylan Thomas". The Carrie is going to be named same as the first 390 I took on my own. "Virgin Warrior".
However I draw the line at any bloomin voyager ones!! Unless I really hate a loco I have! The idea of naming something "Bombardier super crappy Vulgar" does not appeal to me..
Also my first clas 175 was "Coronation street" or something equally worthless...

It was indeed 86219, going back a bit as I was a shunter at the time so it's got to be 1990 or early 91. Time/beer/women have muddled my mind since then a bit! :D All I know is that it was 219 as I had a hornby model of it before & thought it was cool that my first AC drive was of one I had a model of. Just can't remember it having plates on, may well have done.DVT Dweller wrote: As far as I know Shane, (im probably going to be wrong on this then  ) 86219 has only ever carried the name Pheonix.
By the way, whats your Starsky & Hutch style(Blue & white chiltern) DVT doing in Willesdon yard? It's been there for weeks now!
I did think about that or at least leaving the Virgin bit off, but I think I will keep it. It would be in the same style as "Virgin Soldiers" as in the the virgin bit would mean it's dictonary meaning rather than company name. If that makes sense. Good job my first wasn't one of the ones I had today, Virgin Princess!!DolwyddelanLightRail wrote:Thats the problem these days, most things are named after stupid things espcially the voyagers!
What i would do with Virgin Warrior is just leave the virgin bit off, and call it Chyknell Warrior!

302 the dairy milk/chocolate box? I watched 66110 moving it around in the yard last week when I was on a pass up turn, (kind of hoped it wasnt going to come back), but it was back again when I passed on one of the diverts yesterday. Theres a rake of our coaches in the middle of the yard too, someone just needs to remove a few compass stickers off the side. The rake with the DVT was used for the 3 peaks but I think now LORL have got more 378's and some very slow new DMU's they are abit short of space for keeping the rest of our stuff on Willesden depot.DVT Dweller wrote:

I was wondering what those DRS mk3's were doing there, I only caught a quick glimpse of them as I have to watch my speed there & reign the 390 in before the TASS kicks in & shouts at me as it's only 120mph past Wembley & then 125mph just before Wembley central. So your lot have those mk3's then? They are supposed to be good ones as well, better than those knackers we hired after Grayrigg anyway.DVT Dweller wrote: Theres a rake of our coaches in the middle of the yard too, someone just needs to remove a few compass stickers off the side.
BTW I have forgotten already but are you 32mm or 45mm? If you are 32mm you will have to come down when I get some more track down as I would love to see how a VOR loco handles the line.

The CVLR has aqquired some wierd stock, most likely war repatriation from the great war & handed down via the MOD & various other lines before ending there days on this backwater line.

Ok so I was in back 2 bay 6 today & he had a couple of those garish coaches in, I just thought what the heck & bought them. Regauged easily with ex narrowminded's accy wheelsets. I have started on one to make it more fitting to the UK/My line. But the gloss varnish I used seems to have left a bit of brushstrokes...nevermind, adds to the charector
. Need to do the other one now as it's far too ghey looking as it is!

Endless, Nameless
The line looks absolutely fantastic- not dropped in for a while and I'm stunned by your progress!
Love the new look of the Carrie too. Drop "New Haven Neil" on here (v. rarely posts) a PM, I know he has a contact who does custom lining transfers, Neil has a BR liveried (less logos) VoR and the lining is brilliant for what the transfers cost.
Pheonix is one of the prettiest mamod mods I've seen

Ta for the headsup there Matt, may well do that.
Right time for a few updates.
More details can be found here under the section "late notices"
http://cvlr.webs.com/
But heres a quick summery...
LGB no more!

Still awaiting finishing.

A period photo of the coaches at Lens Crossing (1931).
That leads me onto the CVLR's second station approx 21 real (1to1 scale)feet away from the 1st one! It's only a request halt & will just fit one bogie coach or two/maybe three 4 wheelers.
Full story on the website.

It's easy Pete. I just sawed off all the LGB bits, then fitted a small brass section underneath the LGB buffer beam. Then using accucraft chopper coupling bodies you just line the screw holes up with the join between the LGB beam & the extra brass bit & superglue it on. Bang on in height with all my other stock.
Accy chopper couplings £4.75...sorted.

Lens crossing gained a bench seat (slaters) & a enamel guinness sign today. Also fitted some telegraph poles along the lineside. These cheap Bachmann items are nice & flexy, will see if they survive. Chyknell station gained its station name boards & half of it's roof in corrugated steel.
Forgot to take any pics though! ;)
However I had an idea the other day to build a translator vehicle for my Binnie skip & chassis train as the only loco that has exactly the same coupler height now is my IP Rapier. Actually had seen this done (albeit differently)on another railway so I'm hardly original but I've done it the CVLR way (i.e. on the cheap with whatever was knocking about & copious amounts of superglue!).
So here's my version......

As almost all my stock eventually gets Accucraft chopper coupling bodies without the chopper bit, instead centre buffer piece from back 2 bay 6 replaces the chopper part. So I end up with a lot of chopper bits left over. (Square & round head chopper ends spare, my coupler style on right).

Just thought I would try using part of the spare chopper heads on the binnie chassis................

........& you can't get much better than that for inline.
So two Binnie chassis will now be modified to carry the accy chopper head on one end of the chassis only. Fixed rake train running but still worth it without having the coupler height issue.
Both the translator vehicles (Yes a bit of a modern image term for coupling adapter vehicles I know), will be made as brake ends with Ad-Hoc modifications for comfort. The first one is started & is my entry into the comedy binnie wagon competition! Every line should have some crazy binnie vehicles & this one is good so far. You can just tell that a couple of CVLR staff must have plundered some corrugated iron sheets from somewhere & bodged them onto the brake wagon to form some kind of shelter. I just like the way the whole body so far wobbles about as the vehicle moves. Still more to add (like a roof & another side with a door), binnie wagons are just too much fun!!

Oh & also got some "real rust", first time I have ever used this stuff. One binnie hopper done so far & it's amazing stuff. Need to add more to it yet.
