I use regular model railway spray paint for bodywork. Mine are in railmatch GWR green. Then I paint the boiler with VHT matt black spray paint, the kind they sell in motoring shops to spray exhaust pipes with. The other way is BBQ paints but have not tried that.

I've got a green mamod SL1 in bits thats for sale soon. Needs wheels or wheels fixing to axle & a bit of tweaking but is ideal for bolting bits onto. Can't let it go cheap though as I need to recoup what I spent on it at leastm but I don't want silly ebay money for it. Some have gone for up to £150 on there recently just for the loco??!!

Yup, VHT exhaust or engine paint for the boiler (can get a few colours other than black but they tend to be rather garish) and I used the standard humbrol enamel tins to paint mine- the finish wasn't very good, but that was my incompetence not anything to do with the paint, and there weren't any problems with the heat.

Before:

And after some very simple mods and a coat of paint:

That was gas fired, with a new regulator, lubricator and I suspect cylinders. Ran beautifully, and I wish I'd never sold it... ought to try and buy it back someday, a friend has it now.
