Help identifying wagon kit manufacturer please

Post by Cahamo » Mon Oct 12, 2026 10:37 am

I've acquired a pair of second hand 16 mm scale, 32 mm gauge, flat wagons - see photos.

I'm curious to know who manufactured these wagons. Can anyone help to identify them?

The closest match I've found online is the IP Engineering FR flat wagon, but they're not identical and the materials are wrong. The wagon and wheelsets are all plastic, possibly injection moulded. The base colour is black. Wheels are curly spoke plastic, integral with plastic axles. Axle boxes seem to be moulded with the solebars. Dimensions: apx 10 cm long, 5 cm wide and 3.5 cm from wheel flange to deck top.

Looking at the axle boxes, the black plastic chassis, the spacing of loops and the cury spoked wheels, my guess it's based on a Binnie slate wagon.

Thanks Rik. I think you've hit the nail on the head. It also explains why the holes containing the load rings are too big!

Definitely a Binnie slate wagon, now back in production after a long break for this particular item

Thanks. Looking at the photo on the Binnie website the chassis and floor are identical.

Now I know where to get more of the same flats if I need them.
