Anywhere to get battered G45 track cheap?

Post by LNERW1 » Wed Mar 11, 2026 1:06 pm

Genuinely losing the plot looking for G45 track, I’m going straight to RC as I’ve inherited a large amount of LGB track, but it’s not really in a great condition to carry power. As such im just fitting all the track power locos with RC, simple enough job all things considered, but all the track I can find on GRS, eBay, etc. is all pretty expensive, mainly because it’s in good enough condition to carry power. However, I don’t need this, but am finding it hard to find any battered LGB, Aristocraft, Piko, etc track that would be better for my wallet. Can anyone help me here?
Works in G scale, curious about SM32. Profiles on IRM and RMWeb as well, under same username, check them out.
Also, anyone interested in Irish (specifically 3ft) lines, I'm no expert but I can try help.

Hi
It's pot luck, really. Zach (Dr Bond) recently bought a job lot of G45 Peco track at the Midland show for a really good price and last year I got a job lot on eBay very cheaply after I set up an alert. You might also get lucky by keeping an eye on dealers who stock secondhand track if they are overstocked. Another alternative is to get some plastic track from somewhere like ECR ( https://ebay.us/m/KQjFdb ) though not sure if it's UV resistant

As Rik mentioned - at the garden railway shows there are sometimes excellent bargains on bundles of dirty track (usually recently dug out of someone's garden).
