Thanks Phil
It had dimmed into the mist of my memory. Interesting to use Celotex with ply edging. Stiff and light.
Am I right that you have used a couple of picnic tables as its legs?
gilfachphil wrote: Mon Jun 30, 2025 11:11 am With regard to modular layouts, surely it is best to stick with the format already in use amongst those in the NGS Modular Group?
I did wonder about making some alterations to Yr Orsaf Newydd so it could be linked into that system but in the end decided not to, a completely new module might be more sensible but I already have too many layouts in various scales!
Phil
I did wonder about following the guidelines on modular layouts but it's a bit vague about SM45 dimensions.

Hi Rik,

I have a set of three ‘pasting tables’ from EBay of which two are used to support the layout. It’s a little wobbly but nothing too serious and they are height adjustable which is useful.

I expect the use of SM45 in the modular group is very limited,

Phil

I'll probably use LGB track anyway as I have plenty to hand whereas I'd imagine the 16mm-ers would prefer to use Peco. If ever we do marry up, I may have to include some sort of conversion section.

There is also the open frame baseboard option that might be worth looking at if you are going to model a transhipment diorama . I presume the sm32 would be on the high level and the sm45 on the low level .

Hi
Yes. But there will be limited scope for the 32mm line on this main board as it simply will run from the fiddle yard straight on to the unloading gallery. Most of the track will be 45mm covering most of the lower section so I think it'll have to be a solid baseboard.

Good morning Rik,

I have followed your top quality content for a while.

From a 32mm modular perspective you would be very welcome to join the fray. For this the 32mm track would need to be rail height at 960 from the floor. There are a significant number of 32mm modules not far away from you in the Wrexham/Buckley area. We do also have John Wenlock's 45mm tramway section which I am sure could be joined to. I could see a fiddle yard for your 45mm gauge one side of of John's Street tramway and the copper mine the other. With the modular 32 separate to your mining 32 which goes to it's own fiddle yard.

Can't speak for the Hampshire group but to marry up with them who have a circuit of 45mm track the 45mm track would have to be at 960mm from floor height.

Look forward to seeing how your layout progresses.

Dan

Thanks Dan
I've visited John Wenlocks garden railway and ran a train on his 45 mm line.
I might struggle to make both 32mm and 45 mm the same height from the floor, unless I build a bridging module, but an interesting proposition.

At the moment, I'm experimenting with 3D printed track from Thingiverse (eg https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2933244)

I'm having to make a few modifications to the original design but eventually, I'm hoping that I can produce dual gauge (32/45mm) track. It's easier for me to do that with 3D designs than otherwise.

I have just printed 5 sets of points for my inside shelf,
I used stls from Arock Stone he also did some for 32mm https://www.thingiverse.com/arockstone/designs
as well as a couple of remixes that fitted Bachmann track and this big boy https://www.printables.com/model/226398 ... 1805018150
