Daisy and her train sit perfectly IN the scene with just the right amount of weathering. I know I've mentioned it before, but I love the wear on the steps outside each door of the Pass. car.

My eyes must be worse than I thought! I had to literally look at the last picture 3 times before I worked out that the station building isn't on wheels behind the loco and that the grey of the van is blending into the grey of the building!

I did the same thing - I think it's a consequence of my using the same Wilko primer for everything! Guess it will no longer be a problem, at least with that particular brand...

I guess there would be a precedent for infrastructure on wheels - I'm thinking of that Tal-y-Llyn tea van from the 60s...

I'm not sure this one doesn't cross the line from "character" into "caricature", but that doesn't bother me this time - I've got other engines I can use to play trains "seriously"!

Thanks Grant! Yes, the worn footboards remains my favourite weathering technique! I'm not actually sure how accurate it is, but it looks right to me, and suggests that the little plastic people really do climb in and out...

Thanks Rod! I save the really heavy weathering for the goods wagons! Actually, I'm thinking of going the other way and modelling an un-weathered carriage that's just come out of the works, possibly in - whisper it - satin varnish rather than matt!

Apparently a works vehicle of some sort. The one I saw in Christchurch station in the '70s was fixed to the flat wagon in typical NZ bush engineering style, using twisted fencing wire.

As everyone has said — and as I thought I’d posted before (but apparently didn’t) — the weathering’s beautifully done and the loco and coaches look great. Polling day was cool too.

That particular loco is named after my late mother-in-law - it would seem wrong to weather it, even it is VERY shiny! Actually, the livery choice was inspired by MOD locos, that do always seem to have been well looked after!

There's great excitement in the motive power department actually - a new arrival is scheduled for this very afternoon. Stay tuned for updates...

Back in 1928, Hunslet "Lilla" was lowered down the Bryngwyn incline before travelling over Welsh Highland metals en route from its original home at the Cilgwyn Quarry to start a new life at Penrhyn. That much is true - but what if...

What if everything hadn't gone quite so smoothly, and there was some sort of mishap, on the incline, perhaps? Nothing too serious, but enough to necessitate repairs at Dinas, to scupper the sale to Penrhyn - and so, for it to remain on the Welsh Highland...

It's flimsy, but good enough for me - so, several months ago, I found new homes for a couple of little-used locos and re-invested the proceeds with Roundhouse, the result which arrived on Friday...

Isn't she lovely?!

The first run was with as rake of Welsh Highland slate wagons, which I guess she'd have pulled at Cilgwyn, which sent its output via the WHR. The model performed beautifully, straight out of the box, proving to be smooth, controllable and powerful - so I added all of the other slate wagons I could find to the train too...

I think "Lilla" will probably jump "Palmerston" in the lining queue, probably over the winter. It looks like an easier job, and "Palmerston" seems to be coping fine unadorned, whereas I think "Lilla" is crying out for black edging and yellow lining...

In the meantime though, she's lovely just as she is. I'm hoping for a sunny evening or two at some point this week, so I can let her loose on a passenger train...

Yep, that's the one - the same as FR green for Linda, but also the closest match for her original/current livery. The real thing looks lovely in green - I hope I can do the lining justice!

What controller did you go for?

The conventional one, in the end. I was very tempted by the Fosworks version after your message on the subject (on space grounds apart from anything else!), but I couldn't justify the extra expense at the moment. Later on, maybe...
