The Rishton Riviera Light Railway

Post by SLRmidge » Sun Jul 05, 2009 6:50 pm

A small group of us NWAGS set forth into the wilds of East Lancashire today to see The Rishton Riviera Light Railway at work. Apart from a shower or two (which didnt interupt running) a great afternoon was had.

Here are my pics, although there is a possibility that the name of the railway is completely the from the imagination of SLRmidge
Image
Gwydion seen in front of the great view from the garden. The Leeds-Liverpool canal runs past the bottom of the garden, although we saw only one narrowboat all afternoon.
Image
Not seen one of these before, a Smith and Harrison Hurricane, which purred sedatly round. The tippers it was hauling were also interesting, 6 of 500 made by Roundhouse.
Image
A Pease Countess climbs the steep hill between the lower loop and the main circuit.
Image
Double Headed Roundhouse Billys, the rear one is a resident of the line.
Image
A Roundhouse Russell, which apparantly hadn't been steamed for a long time.
Image
SLRmidge did have some trouble with some sections of the track...

A video of Kittiwake storming up the bank
Thanks to the owner of the line, and SLRmidge for the transport
