New locos from Roundhouse & Accucraft Sept 18

Post by SimonWood »

At the Llanfair show, Roundhouse and Accucraft announced some new models.

Roundhouse have a new 'basic' series freelance 0-4-2 tender loco 'Jennie'. They did actually have it at the show; unfortunately I failed to take a photo

Accucraft will be doing a 7/8ths Kerr Stuart Wren.

They also have new freelance 0-4-0 locos to succeed Ragleth: a side tank 'Talgarth' and a saddle tank 'Sabrina'.

Any idea about the price tag on the new Accucraft "Talgarth" and "Sabrina"?

They're aiming for £950

I'm a bit surprised that is considered "entry level". How many people will drop that much money to get started in a hobby? I'm not saying they are overpriced considering they have a configuration very similar to a Roundhouse "Katie".

Hmmm... I've never been much of a fan of Accucraft's generic locos, but those two are really rather nice, pleasingly chunky and very plausible-looking "muigh have beens", at least to my inexpert eye. Probably a bit big for me though, they'd tower over my carriages, and anyway, if the engine-buying pot ever fills up again (it's currently empty) I've got my eye on a Lilla. Tempting though, I look forward to seeing the finished products...

Personally. I'm not so sure about the RH model, although I reckon it might appeal as a starting point for 7/8ths folk, it puts me in mind of 15" gauge locos...

Andrew.

That's what I thought. It appears a little big for 16mm.

I guess the value of the pound may also be a factor in pricing

Accucraft with TALGARTH and SABRINA only had CAD design drawings, whereas RH had a fully working model of JENNIE to show [and play with]. A binus was that JENNIE and its tender was in the same maroon as the display Bertie, allowing one to match the tender up and take a look. The tender, which will be sold as a separate unit, does suit the tank locos very well!
