Morgan "Baby" Garratt mark II
Morgan "Baby" Garratt mark II
Hi guys,
Past year has been busy at the Morgan works. Those who browse the Morgan Garratt threads regularly will remember his unique "baby" Garratt, of which 4 now exist. This mark I version was quite light-footed and as such lacked the pulling power expected of a Garratt.
Dad has now redesigned the locomotive to use an svs motor in the middle instead of the rear bunker. This has allowed the locomotive to be powered at both ends, improving power dramatically!
The result is here. Other design changes include laser cut frames which makes the locomotive much more free wheeling and numerous cosmetic changes such as the side tanks. A version without side tanks is being developed.
Below is the prototype unit, 2 more copies are currently being made with enough parts for (hopefully) many more.
Price TBC

The original mark I is here as a comparison:

The mark II is here on a test run, drives being very tight.

Because of the tolerances during assembly, they require running in.

Ooh, lead me not into temptation....
(I can find the way myself)
Will you take a small child in part exchange?

First run of the finished article. Still very tight but the haulage is much improved.

The second locomotive is already part built. This one has been pre-sold but we'll show the finished article when it's finished.
The prototype Mayumbe Garratts will be revealed soon, a number of changes will be made for the final version but these two will eventually be for sale also.
All the Garratts will be painted in the blue shown above, crimson lake, Brunswick green and black. These powered by the SVS steam motor driving all wheels vie cardan shafts and worm gears, providing controllable and consistent haulage The prototype Mayumbe Garratts will be revealed soon, a number of changes will be made for the final version but these two will eventually be for sale also.
