My Katie came fitted with the tiny R4Ms receiver under the cab floor and there was still plenty of space for a battery pack. As I do not use the Planet 2.4 GHz system I gave it to a fellow 16mm group member. I use the Spektrum/OrangeRX DSM2/X system and they have a similar tiny receiver - R410X.
I like that you retain the reverser lever control on Accucraft locos when fitting R/C. My Ragleth is single channel R/C on the reverser and I've ran it manually whilst demonstrating on a level continuous loop indoor layout. My Caradoc is 2 channel R/C but I've just fitted an Accucraft regulator lever onto the steam regulator shaft (backwards) so it can also be operated manually.

I just used automobile enamels to paint my engine- worked out great.
I highly recommend reading Chris Bird's article on painting- he's reproduced it on his Summerland Chuffer website. Lots of good advice there, and it works. Putting the part in a warm oven (lowest setting) for half an hour is the best part- dries in an hour rather than taking days.

Just spent an afternoon preparing the bodywork for painting. Found there was still soldering to do; new steps courtesy of swift Sixteen for the cab and the sliding roof thingy and the big hole for the aerial to fill. In the end I just soldered a neat patch over that, on the grounds that a cab roof may have acquired repairs over it's lifetime.
Main body now primed.

Yes; all screws will be replaced with bolts where they can be seen and I plan to make new riveted buffer beams in steel and new valve covers in brass with bolts to hold it down with dummy bolts in between.JMORG:119638 wrote:Looks amazing! More pictures please!
Are you going to add any extra detailing at all? Or is that a future project?
I am planning on adding a Roundhouse tender too.

That is looking very nice Don. I assume the boiler wrapper has been painted blue as well?
Like your split colour cab interior - very prototypical.
My Katie has just finished its season running on the indoor 45mm layout at Dunaskin (where the young ones were calling it the gold locomotive as it was mostly unpainted by the previous owner), although as it is a good runner I'm reluctant to start stripping it down for painting until our 16mm NGM running season is finished (end of October).
For attaching the buffer beams I use the one size smaller 6BA hex head bolts with a 7BA head. I've not found the equivalent one size smaller M3 hex head bolts (yet).
My 2nd hand Katie came with an unpainted kit built William tender (wood burner resin inlay), and I've a George tender kit to build for my Billy/Riverdale Elke conversion. Hope to paint these the same colour so the tenders can move between the 2 locos. You can get the other gauge tender wheels separately from Roundhouse if you need to run on both 32mm & 45mm.

Chuffer? Well I have thought about it. Thing is I rather like the way she runs so quietly and it's a bit of a one way process fitting a chuffer. I have a chuffer on my Ragleth and it can make her sound a little "busy". So for the moment at least, no chuffer, no slo-mo, no RC. Keeping it simple.
Just had a very relaxing 27 minute run which is not bad.
