Since Christmas was the time so many of us received our first bicycle I thought I'd put these ideas out there

The idea to put a bicycle on the rails seems to have been mooted around the same time the safety bicycle became a reliable proposition for daily transport.

Bill and the crew are away on their holidays at the moment, but I'm certain that when they get back they will be very interested in putting together a rail bicycle so they can get around the tramway quickly if they need to.

This readily available dollshouse miniature bicycle could be a useful starting point.

My Mum was heavily into dollshouse miniatures, but mostly 1/12th and I still have three of her houses here at home. I was almost tempted into building a tramway in 1/12th, but there simply isn't enough space for it. I'm sure Mum had a bicycle somewhere in her bits boxes so I must have a look for it. Most bicycles sold as 1/12th are underscale so I'm hoping that I can find it. If I remember correctly it was red which Bill and the crew with love, coz as everybody knows red ones go faster

Another railbike, this one 15 inch gauge and being demonstrated on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway by one of the steam drivers. This machine is actually visiting from the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, and I say "is" because although it came for the 100th Anniversary of R&ER gauge conversion in August, it still hasn't gone home yet...

In the pic one of the steam drivers is having a go, although I got a couple of goes on it myself, luckily nobody was around with a camera at the time!

Ha ha, - that rail bike looks like it would be a real handful to ride. Great photo

It is a bit of a handful, especially as the thing is always trying to turn right after being involved in a shunting incident at Romney last year...!

Ohh the lack of any suspension and no rubber tyres...
