Water Tower for the PLR

The first of four water towers for the Peckforton Light Railway is nearing completion. Needs painting and a bit more detailing (eg the hose), but thought I'd try it out to see what it looked liked in situ

Hopefully it looks like something which would appear on a light railway

Very nice Rik. It's not that easy to stack sleepers that neatly and if it's not done carefully it looks rubbish. I love the Braithwaite tank. Well done again.

Had my regular Maplin fix today, so picked up some heatshrink sleeving. Looks about right, I hope....

No particular prototype. The tank comes from a combination of a couple of pix I found online, but I dredged the tower out of the mists of a dodgy memory.

Can give links to the images I used for the tank, if you are interested, but not sure about taking a mind-snap.....

Ooh, I like that!

I'll be knocking up something similar soon for my line (the last time one of my engines could fill up with water was in about 1990, and they were 4mm scale then!) and I'll definitely pinch your hose idea. How did you create the pipe with the nice neat bend in?

Mine will have a sleeper-built tower too, like the Pont Croesor one on the old WHR - that had a small square tank wagon perched on top (minus running gear I guess!) and I'll recreate that too...

Reminds me of one of the WDLR's more permanent jobs - i.e. one Fritz was not likely to hit with a shell. Braithwaite tank sections were a standard item, and sleepers were laying around in stores. What was a bit more hit and miss was whether they actually had a proper outlet or you used the water lifter on the locomotive.

I bought a pack of novelty drinking straws which included pipework sections, a bit like this one
