Accucraft Superior What Scale is it?!

Post by cncmodeller » Sat Jun 27, 2015 6:30 pm

I'm making a new scale smokebox for my Accucraft Superior and its slowly dawned on me that certain dimensions are a bit off! The coupled wheelbase is certainly correct but the whole loco appears to be longer and wider than I would expect. The only drawing I've got is one in the book about the Whipsnade railway which I cant vouch for its accuracy but I do have a side drawing of the Bagnall sisters Alpha,Triumph and Superb and their length from each buffer beam
Is 18 feet 6inches which makes a 16mm loco 296mm long whereas the model is 320mm. The loco seems to tower above my L and B Lew and I'm wondering if in fact its to a slightly larger scale.

I also have a Superior, it is the tallest of my fleet but it is a 2ft 6" loco and is big in the metal...

If you compare the model and the prototype, the cab on the model is definitely too tall. I think the model is only fairly loosely based on the real loco.
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."
