Track Problem

I'm starting to build a small 7/8th scale line and have run into a snag. I've got Code 200 flat bottom rail and 12mm copper clad sleepers and my soldering irons have trouble with it. Can any one recommend what wattage iron I would need? My biggest iron is 60 watt. Thank you.

Have you not got a very small blowtorch?

I use a mixture of a 100w iron and small blow toch on my brass body works. I tried my 60w iron when i started and it wouldnt touch it.

Likewise. I gave up trying to use an iron for anything except wiring. I use a small Iroda butane blowtorch for bigger stuff, it works like magic - plenty of heat exactly where you want it. A joint like you want to make would take two seconds.

Thanks for the reply's gents. I have now got a 100 watt iron on order,but if that doesn't do it I'll get a torch.

I use a gas powered soldering iron. It seems to be the best of both worlds. Iron tip for slightly more subtle tasks, or blow torch nozzle for more reckless jobs.
Mine came from Aldi of all places and was dirt cheap.
I think Maplin sell them as well.

Yes agree. It is also brilliant for any odd wiring jobs in the garden, like making alterations or replacing station lamps, etc.
