Re: Snowdon mountain railway - rack and pinion in garden form?
Interesting. Looks like the racks are produced by LGB, just need to see if there is any way of adding a cog to the axle of a Ragleth. Might be a project worth a try!

Re: Snowdon mountain railway - rack and pinion in garden form?
Yes I run live steam with a Accu Ragleth (as well as battery, a RH bulldog)tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 10:42 am If you are running live steam then fit an inertia device.
I'm not familiar with inertia devices though, can you give me more info on how they work etc?

Finished model running on the railway. Took a while to finish off a bit at a time but pleased with the outcome in the end.
Oh and the answer the above question, G45.

Snowdon mountain railway - rack and pinion in garden form?
Having a rather (too?) steep climb on my garden railway, I’ve often thought about having a go at adding a rack and pinion centre rail like the snowdon railway. My engines have the power to climb, but it’s slipping of the wheels that cause a train to stall with any reasonable load. Anyone attempted a...

Re: First steam run of 2019 - where does the time go??
Nice video, I didn't spot the continuity error. As others have said your line does thread through some narrow gaps (who mentioned kinetic envelope?) and I bet there are a few places you are praying there are no derailments or you run out of steam! That said your line is nicely landscaped, pity you ...

Re: First steam run of 2019 - where does the time go??
Nice video. An interesting line you have managed to squeeze between various buildings. That must require very competent track laying in awkward spots. I would like to see more. Don Plenty of trial and error Don, the curve around one shed is a trap for leaves and tree debris so needs cleaning regula...

First steam run of 2019 - where does the time go??
Due to a busy early summer and poor weather when a spare weekend occurred, yesterday the diesel ran to clear the track for the first time in 2019. Then today was the first run of the steam engine this year!! https://youtu.be/AT6PSmQ347I There's a clue at about 1m40 ish that continuity buffs will spo...

Loco all painted, ‘tyre buffers’ added. Needs a bit of weathering and detailing next.
Had to try to add this scene!!!

Re: Excellent service from Garend Railway Specialists (GRS)
It’s a fairly compact layout and built to fit the garden that was already there, my locos are all 0-4-0 and so cope ok with the tight curves. I was determined to have a bridge in this bit and the only way was to ‘make it fit’!!

They didn’t very often and if they did it was with very very careful driving!tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Mon Sep 24, 2018 12:55 pm The massive kink in your BEFORE photo is amazing, how did any locos get through that without derailing!

Excellent service from Garend Railway Specialists (GRS)
Had some tricky points on my layout for some time, they were never quite right. Slightly wrong track, wrong shape. They were very much in the "it'll do for a bit" bracket, that bit was two years or so. This summer I decided to get some built that would fit just right, after toying for abou...

Taken an old Mickey Mouse battery loco as you can see from the tender and in the process of painting, but the second picture should give it away!

Pretty much done, the last of the detailing completed this week. https://i.imgur.com/bKhqWoU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xrofb3N.jpg and then today finished off with a little bit of weathering, just need a lacquer coating and then we'll be ready to put outside! https://i.imgur.com/4PxT1ie.jpg Thinking o...

Re: Custom points build - any recommendations?
I think Marcway in Sheffield will build whatever you want, but they are expensive. Why don't you build your own? It is nowhere near as difficult as most people imagine and you'll end up with something you've done yourself at a fraction of the cost. Hmm, not sure I have the skills to get what I'm af...

Re: Custom points build - any recommendations?
Thanks, looks to be plans for more traditional points. What I'm after is more bespoke i.e. complicated! Needs to have a curve ideally on the main track and turnout.

Custom points build - any recommendations?
I’m looking to get a set of point custom built for the summer, I need to replace a set of small points that are mismatched to my peco G45 track with something that will fit the track layout better. So I’m after recommendations of anyone folks have used to build points from some fairly crude but to s...

I've been toying with the idea of getting a battery loco to run alongside my Ragleth, for those times I just want to get things going without a steam up. I've been looking at the roundhouse locos, in particular either a little john or a harlech castle. I can see pros and cons of each, but what I'd l...
