I bought some really cheap wooden sleepered, brass railed track, which was cheap because the chairs and sleepers were past it. Cleaned up the rail and resleepered it with tenmille sleeper strip. Worked out about half the price of new tenmille track. Only problem was finding correct fishplates.

I'll have to try some of these other methods I think! Getting back to soldering rail sections together, I noticed on the Ffestiniog that two rail sections had been welded together, so they had a similar problem!

Hi Jim, They are the same height, the problem is the differing rail sections. I use tenmille track with peco points. Years ago I had several sections of the two types or rail silver soldered together so that I could join the peco to tenmille. Maybe they could be soft soldered together? Hope this hel...

I have used secondhand bullhead in brass with tenmille sleeper strip. Just cleaned and straightened the rail before assembly (the existing sleepers and chairs being beyond renovation). At the time a cheaper way to robust track. Plus the rail is already dulled and weathered! Only trouble I had was fi...

You could still use the rail, and replace the sleepers, chairs etc with tenmille sleeper strip. I've had some of this down for about 20 years and it's still going strong. Not the cheapest option but cheaper than new track and durable.

Hi,
I have a Fowler F30 from Essel. A well made, quite and powerful loco. I have several locos from Essel and cannot fault them!

Peco Sm32 is flat bottom rail section and not compatible with bullhead rail section as such. I've used peco points with tenmille track and silver soldered the two rail sections together. I've found the two makes of track are the same height and don't need packing. Hope this helps.

If it's anything like his original loco's it should be good. I have a Budget Battery Loco (1993) and it's still going strong.

Hi Jabsteam,

Have you looked at Essel engineering? I've had several loco's off them and have found them to be well made, powerful and reliable.
Hope this helps.

Essel manufacture some very good battery loco's. I've purchased a few over the years and they have all been well made and reliable.
Also Roger Hine makes his "Punch" loco which going by his earlier locos (under the Friog name) should be a good

Peco 0 gauge track has bullhead section rail, whilst peco SM32 has a flatbottom section rail. With this and the differing sizes of rail and differing heights of each type of track I don't think you would have much luck in mixing the two types.

Faller Points and Big Big Trains.

Hi,

I've used big big chassis for years and I find they hold the track very well. Maybe it's the combination of faller track and big big wheels. I did once rewheel a big big chassis with binnie wheels so maybe this could solve the problem.
Hope this helps!

Track.

I've been trawling through old topics and noticed your query. I've used quite a lot of bonds rail on my line. I used it with tenmile sleeper sections, they are are strong and durable and of course no problem with chairs popping out! Only problem I've had is obtaining bonds fishplates. They are neede...

What primer for roundhouse white metal buffers?

I usually clean up the casting with a swiss file and wire wool. Then I polish up the face, paint the coupling with 2 or 3 coats of humbrol satin black, wiping the polished face with a rag and White spirit each time. I've never had paint come off any of my White metal couplings. Hope this helps.
