Brilliant, sitting by the pool having breakfast in Marrakesh, that really gave us a chuckle, thanks, and well done on the small space railway!

I use a gas powered soldering iron. It seems to be the best of both worlds. Iron tip for slightly more subtle tasks, or blow torch nozzle for more reckless jobs. Mine came from Aldi of all places and was dirt cheap. I think Maplin sell them as well. Yes agree. It is also brilliant for any odd wirin...

You could get two 4wheeler bodies and mount them on a deliberately sagged u/frame. That would solve both the end beading problem and how to get a controlled sag, but then of course you'd have to get a pair of bogies. I dont know if they are available as spairs or something?

Yes, it is, I bought a bottle last week! ( Got it in an arts and crafts shop, not a model a shop, btw)

Hi Martin and welcome.
I can't help much with advice on your particular queries, I'm firmly 16mm on 32mm track myself, but there are plenty of others on here who will no doubt soon pop up with some answers.

That looks well worth the effort, well done! Do you think it will stand up to outside weather conditions or do you expect to go through the process each year? Peter, Thanks. The simple answer is, I don't know but I hope it will last outside. I certainly don't want to have to redo it annually. The w...

Thanks for the nice comments everyone How was the (I've got no idea what the technical name is) Top bit done? Lovely and neat - I think its the best model thatch I have seen. Zac, this might get a bit long winded, but you did ask! BTW, the top bit is called the ridge cap, I think. First I cut three ...

The cottage itself is finished and I'm just making the garden for it now, but it's been bucketing down all day and no way am I going outside!

Personally, I wouldn't for the reasons I said before. Also, I don't see the point, why not simply use a thicker sheet to start with?

Presumably you mean fretted out layers of mouldings etc, not 2 or 3 layers of solid flat sheet? If you start from one long edge and hold the fretted sheet slightly away from the base layer, using a brush you can get the liquid to flow between the layers by capilliary action. You are unlikely to be a...

I agree with Andy on this. Its one of the reasons why my line has few figures as yet. I've made a few of my own using Fimo and they tend to come out looking like caricatures and I don't really like them for that very reason. I have a few Schleich figures, but they are a bit undersized although of va...

Matt,
You could solve the issue of the lever throw on your home made point, by putting an 'omega loop' into the link rod between lever and tie bar.

I've tried N gauge in the garden and I've tried 00 in the garden and neither were really satisfactory, so I can't see 009 being more than the worst of both worlds. However by coincidence I was in Howes of Oxford this morning, to get some paint, and they have some very tasty looking O gauge stuff in ...

Update on the past weeks work. Unfortunately I was a bit busy last week and didn't make as much progress as I'd have liked, but still, the windows and doors are all made and fitted and the ridge cap is done apart from the adding the spars ( the patterned arrangement of sticks that anchor it). ./myff...
