The way I see it, I am considerably priced out of the hobby already (though playing with 7 1/4" doesn't help).  As a result I have ended up making or rebuilding my own engines to save money.  I'm sure that others have had to do this too, and I don't think thats such a bad thing if it means peop...

its why I did it. I had been getting grief from rivet counters about my toy trains so I thought I'd really ruin their day.

hi all, I am in the throes of repairing the gas valve for a Cheddar Hercules, and was wondering if there are any known spare parts knocking about? I think what has happened is the gas valve was opened fully and has seized, its completely locked up solid. Anyone know of anyone who may have spares? ch...

not quite sadly! Its still a bit of a slop.  I could manufacture a sleeve for it though, I made one for my own and Doug's Swordbreaker

I have found on all the parts I have bought from them lately that quality varies considerably. Its not been a problem for me to sort these things out (aside from being a drag) but its not good to supply things to people who may not be able to sort it, as I said in an email to them once.

Re. through trains to the continent: that was the idea of the good old Great Central who with their very generous loading gauge proposed through-working to the continent via a Channel Tunnel! the trouble with Beddgelert is its immensely long wheelbase. When it goes round a corner it swings out something chronic. I've driven the Fairbourne's model of it and when you go round a corner its very noticable! A member has a scratchbuilt model of it at Guildford 16mm group and he was telling me ...

I've certainly flipped it over the other way up before with no ill effect.

I'm a total sourpuss when it comes to train travel, I now refuse to go anywhere on them unless I have no choice due to my complete lack of staff discount.  Because of this my annual milage is not high. I do however get very excited when old diesels appear. Something English Electric appeared outside...
