Just a suggestion, if you want to use screws, which is what I would do, why not use black japanned woodscrews like these : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4g-6g-8g-10g-12g-TRADITIONAL-SLOT-PAN-ROUND-HEAD-BLACK-JAPANNED-WOOD-SCREWS-/201325218276?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=500520168382&hash=item2edfe...

Dan, I took your last one in the second batch. I understand I would have missed out on that if I'd taken five minutes longer to make up my mind ! I was amazed how quickly a loco at that price has sold. As you say it seems Roundhouse has a winner there. Obviously not everybody wants cheap basic locos...

I feel very hurt that my sympathy has been abused !
Quite frankly joking about your line being crushed by a wall is the epitome of bad taste

Sorry to hear that, Zach, it must be heartbreaking. We know from 41 pages of the DVLR saga how much you've put into it. But I can't see you giving up and I'm sure, once you've recovered from the shock, you'll bounce back.

There are two laws that this county needs that we don't yet have. One is a common decency act. This would make it illegal to maliciously act like a complete bottom. The second is a 'Being Bloody Stupid Act'  This is self explanatory. Brilliant, that just about sums it up. The downside is that the v...

I may be wrong but I'm sensing a hint of annoyance here ! But seriously I'm with you on this. Why do the powers-that-be have to constantly try to protect us from ourselves. There should be more emphasis on people taking responsibility for their own lives and actions. Like you say, as kids we were to...

I'm not really into Mamods to be honest and don't know much about them but I have looked at your thread a few times and can appreciate the skilled work that has gone into it. I love the wheels and it certainly looks better than a standard one.

Ahhh, that would explain why the 5 gallon drum I found at a farm sale 15 years ago works and the stuff I bought before Xmas doesn't. Same applies to a lot of products now unfortunately, creosote, oil based gloss paint etc, the old traditional stuff which works has been banned, the modern environmen...

The Traffic Warden's Funeral As the coffin was being lowered into the ground at a Traffic Warden’s funeral, .... a voice from inside screams: "I'm not dead, I'm not dead. Let me out!" The Vicar smiles, leans forward sucking air through his teeth and mutters: "Too bloody late pal, I've...

Thanks for those photos. Close up shots are great but I always like it when someone posts one or two shots of the whole thing. It helps to see how the individual scenes fit together and integrate into the space available, which I find very useful in getting ideas for my own embryonic line. Also I kn...

I just searched on eBay for brass sheet. The first time I used a firm called Macc Models : http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Macc-Model-Engineers-Supplies-LTD/Brass-Sheet-/_i.html?_fsub=4 I have just bought some more for another project I have in mind but I needed a sheet slightly longer than the 30cm sheets...

Hi Joe, If you haven't seen it, have a look at my thread I posted about a year ago about the body I built for my Ragleth : http://gardenrails.myfreeforum.org/ftopic8305-0-asc-0.php This was my first and, as yet, only attempt at building a brass loco body and I found it quite straightforward and enjo...

I too converted my Lyn to 2 channel R/C. As Phil says it's dead easy. I mounted a second servo in the corner of the coal bunker behind the lubricator where you can hardly see it. Then a short rod from the servo lever operates virtually vertically to a home made lever on the regulator. Then just plug...

I agree, that looks very effective. The wall looks like it is built from concrete blocks, unsurprisingly I suppose, given the material. I can certainly see this idea having a use for retaining walls, tunnel mouths, maybe even viaduct sides ?

When I did our bathroom a few years back I lined the shower cubicle under the tiles with some stuff called Aquapanel, which sounds like what you're talking about. It is cement sheeting reinforced with fibreglass I think. It is claimed to be completely unaffected by water and seems to still be availa...

Oooh!!.... isn't that just crying out for a line to run in one end and out of the other, with station and storage facilities internally! I must admit that thought had crossed my mind but obviously I don't want to go cutting holes in the structure and the difference in height would be awkward. My ga...

Unfortunately I lost a fortnight of fine weather in September as I couldn't get near the carriage to work on it. This was due to having workers in to construct us a new patio, something else which was about 20 years overdue. The upside is that I was able to incorporate a feature into the design whic...

So, I made a start. The first, and urgent , priority was to reroof it. The old felt roofing was in a very poor state, bits had been torn off by gales and patched up numerous times, but was still leaking in places. I had replaced this several times in the past and didn't want to have to do it again s...

Well done. I had doubts that the technique would produce acceptable results but you seem to have achieved it. I'm sure I would have got paint running under the stencil into a big blob ! In fact cutting out an accurate stencil that size in the first place seems quite an achievement.

I had a holiday in Norway with a friend of mine way back in the seventies, we flew to Bergen on a Court Line BAC 111, shows how long ago it was. We travelled on this line and it truly is spectacular scenery. I remember a much smaller train, but I expect the tourism has grown over the years. I rememb...
