Hi all as its a bit to cold to be doing any track laying at the moment (yes i am a bit of a wimp) i was wondering how you would suggest building a sm32 station building or waiting room as a project? i havent got masses of tools and drills etc but i have got the basics, just would like to know your different techniques to give me some ideas please.

It all depends on wether or not the building is going to live outside permanently or only in dry weather.
If it is going to be moved in after a running session then use anything you like. From cardboard to wood anything that can cut and stuck will do.

If you are looking to keep it out in all weathers then you have to use more resistant materials. Have a look through some of the other posts for more ideas.

I swear by foamboard (and sometimes at it), not the card foam sandwich but signwriters foam. It cuts easy and loves solvent weld glue. I use artificial slates for the roof to give a bit of weight. I have a post on the scenery thread called Eassie. I think it's a question of finding the material that you enjoy working with.

the jacksons minatures station is a nice little building to make or get one of peter jones books there very good for building ideas

thanks for the links, I have looked on the Minaco website but it says they only do 1:12 and 1:24, isnt sm32 1:19?

That's the stuff. I find that I buy the lengths to match by build intentions. I use Trent signs, no connections with them but a good service. I use small a3 or a4 sheets of 2 or 3mm for barge boards, seats etc.

If I was doing it again I would use a more water resistant form of wood (think you can get mdf designed for bathrooms), although its withstood 3 winters the moisture has caused some warping of the base. Nothing major but could be avoided with a better choice of wood.

Any advice on how to use foam board, what glue to use? etc
