Last trains on the DFLR

So the time has come to lift the track to prepare for moving house in the new year. Yesterday and the weekend before saw the last trains to traverse the DFLR. I thought I would share some pictures!

But all is not lost. Here is the new garden, all roughly South facing. The ideas are already roosting.

Exciting! New Year new house new railway! Good luck with the move and make sure you get the priorities right.

Lay the track foundation. Lay the track. Test it. Then and only then move onto the house needs. i.e. washing machine plumbed in TV working, decorating and furniture settings etc. etc.

Looks good, shame about dismantling it but now you can learn from your old line and build an even better new one, look forward to seeing pics

Thanks. Unfortunately there is a little bit of building work/decorating to be done first otherwise the wife will kill me. That's the issue of moving into a house which has only had one careful owner since being built in the late 40s. However, it does mean I can build a permanently railway rather than the temporary ones as found in rented accommodation.

Oh I wish I could move back home, unfortunately there aren't many jobs in my chosen speciality at the moment.

Don't know what your specialist field is but after the day I've had you can have mine if you want a job in Wales. I'll even chuck in my secret stash of teabags and choccy biscuits.

Have fun with the diy just remember the bigger balls up you make of a domestic project the less likely you are going to be asked to do another!

I was thinking Beeston too Brian - we weren't that far off!

It's always sad to see the demise of any railway, at least there are plans to re-establish yours 5040.

If the move seems stressful and you can't find the cake forks at Christmas dinner, just spare a thought for the lads spending the day (and night) refurbishing Toton Centre Junction just down the road!

There may be some re-usable crossing timbers if you have any turnouts to rebuild!

Tat's good - Stapleford is easily "do-able" for my place, as is Butterley from yours!
