One thing us pensioners can belong to is the University of the Third Age: a social group dedicated to self-education by its members. As well as general meetings which are of interest to anybody, each local group (I belong to the Ripley one) has special interest groups which cover anything form quilting to dining to wine tasting. One group I belong to is the Transport Group, and a couple of months or so ago I entertained them at Butterley, giving a talk on garden railways, introducing them to the scale and giving them a chance to handle locos and stock.
Following coffee and biscuits (and once the rain had stopped) we all went outside and "played trains", giving the U3A members the chance to drive a steam loco. Coal firing and battery electrics also put in an appearance and the pictures are now at: http://bgra.16mm.org.uk/gallery9.html
Enjoy!
