Hi All

I am looking to build a battery powered diesel loco from a kit, I have got in mind a IP engineering Lucy or Fernor I like the look of these locos and the price, I would also think these could be built with RC, I want a loco that can pull around 10 binnie engineering hudson tipper wagons or around the same weight.

At this point I think I should also tell you that I am new to garden railway but not to building models from kits as I have been flying RC planes and helicopter for the past 25 plus years.

I know I could get a working chassis and put together my own body but as I have said I like the look of the above locos and for the money they look like good value.

Now to put all the above into a nut shell would these be a good way to go or is there anything better, and yes I would go with a chassis and put my own body on it if that is going to be the best option.

IP kits are very good. Well finished wood. The only thing I did with my 3 is to strengthen the motor mounts.Just in case. Ias you ve done r/c planes you ll have no trouble.

IP are good kits. You won't be disappointed with them. However,they can be improved at a reasonable cost. I would consider putting more batteries in them, a metal spur gear and 4 wheel drive. Delrin sprockets and chain aren't readily available at the moment,but Busted Bricks have a cost effective alternative with their belt drive system. Best thing is to get the kit, have a look at it and have fun. 2.4 Ghz radio systems are no problem.
