Ragleth problem

Post by pippindoo » Tue Dec 11, 2012 4:49 pm

When running my Ragleth, she runs fine forwards, but when in reverse, as soon as the regulator is opened, she merely sits there amidst a cloud of steam which appears to be (leaking?) from between the cylinders directly beneath the smokebox. Any clues would be more than welcome, Thanks in advance!

The generic Accys are reversed by a piston valve between the frames that reverses the flow of steam through the cylinders rather than by conventional valve gear. It sounds to me as though you need to adjust the valve by slackening off the keeper nut and then turning the valve piston anti clockwise a couple or three revolutions. That should alter the position of the valve just enough the beast will run in reverse.

Before you do, check the forward and reverse lever has not slipped. The lever mounting for forward and reverse, often moves. I lock tight it down when new.
