Emptying gascans...

Hello everybody.
Here is a simple question that maybe someone out there has an answer to: Is it possible to fill with a gascan untill it gets completely empty :?: I have a lot of "empty" cans, but I think I still hear liquid gas inside when I shake them. I stop using a can when I can“t manage to notice any more gas going in the gastank.. The preassure is of course low in a can that is almost empty.Could that be the reason? But then, gas is heavier than air, so logically the whole content should just drain into the gastank when filling the loco. Shall I throw my old cans away, or is it more gass in them?

I finish them off to completely empty by using them with my blow lamp.

It depends on the type of can.

The expensive ones for filling gas lighters don't retain much, if any liquid. The cheap ones are designed for camping stoves and have a dip tube with a right angle on the end, so they don't feed liquid into the stove burner. The dip tube prevents all the liquid being fed out when held upside down to fill a loco tank.

I use the cheap camping butane and like Tony W, I use up the remaining gas in a blowtorch that is designed to fit these cans. I've not measured it, but the torch runs for quite a while on an 'empty' can.

Regards,
Graeme

Thank you for interesting answers :!:
That really explains things for me. Maybe I should buy a blowtorch, what are the using areas for such a tool?

I use my blowtorch to burn off the weeds on my garden path.

I use mine in the workshop for soft soldering large parts and for medium size silver brazing work. It can handle brazing a gas tank, but wouldn't be up to doing a boiler.

If you don't have a workshop, visit a camping store and get a small stove that uses these cans. You can use it on the railway to brew the drivers tea on running days..... ;)

ps. Here in Oz you can get weedburners that also use these cans, but I've no idea if they are sold in Europe.....
