Quick and cheap name plates

Post by Jerm » Sat Jul 23, 2011 2:38 am

Okay, so I admit this isn't as critical as a forum entitled 'Help Me!' may permit. But it is a question!

I'm looking for a quick and/or cheap way of making name plates. I'm quite familiar with the works of Narrow Planet but sadly they remain out of my price range at the moment (though anything I build may be replaced by one of theirs once funds permit). Any ideas?

one way is to use a thin piece of wood such as a ice lolly stick painted the back ground colour then get some gold coloured rub down lettering (Letraset is one brand to look for) to make the name with. You must use a fairly powerful cutters to cut the wood or it will split. Balsa is also good.

If they're for a battery (NOT LIVE STEAM) loco, plasticard sheet cut to size for the backing + plastic strip for the edging + Slaters (or equivalent) letters should = sets of cheap'n'cheerfull name (and number) plates :D

Great ideas, both. And yes, it's for battery power - the steamers can wait until I can afford proper metal plates.

Thanks!
